Kåtanuten 531 m asl
Kåtanuten was the first mountain I climbed when I came to Norway. It was a long time ago. I haven’t been there in the last years and this was a good reason for refresh that trail. It is placed in Ølensvåg, on the northern shore of Ølsjoen fjord, and the path beginning just opposite the shipyard.
There are three parts of this trail:
- Extremely hard climbing in the woods. First kilometer leads through the forest on very steep slope. Good for train your condition.
- Swamp and puddles. Somewhere around 330 meters above sea level, there is a saddle and the path goes out from the woods. Now, you can go further and climb on another mountain (Hovda) or turn right and go to Kåtanuten. Now it is a time for take a breath after the climbing. But you have to be careful because, there are a lot of mud, puddles and wet ground, where you can drowned. And that’s why the best time to get to Kåtanuten is winter when everything is frozen. But then you have to avoid very slippery ice on the trail.
- Ordinary mountain path. There is necessary to climb again, but this time, the advantage is that you can admire the views around.
The trail (one way) has 2,5 km and it is very popular among the locals inhabitants. Kåtanuten offers fantastic views, and you can get to the summit in one hour (if you are in shape), so this is also good way to train your condition.
