Bakkanosi 1398m asl
Bakkanosi wasn’t my main hiking goal when I arrived to Nærøydalen Valley at Friday’s evening. I was going to spend whole weekend for hiking, mainly on the mountains at northern side of the valley. But trail to this peak was the best described that I could find on internet, so I decided to go there first, just at the Saturday’s morning.
Get Directions
I spent the night at the Vang Camping in Gudvangen. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I couldn’t sleep so I left the camping site very early. The trail starts from school building in Jordalen, small village few kilometers north from Nærøydalen Valley. I paid 70 kr for parking close to the school instead 100 kr if I would left the car along the main road. First part of the trail leads by serpent tractor road in the woods. It is steep but not so long. Very soon I reached Slettedalen Valley, stretched in northern east direction for approx. 5 km. Terrain inclination is barely perceptible. There is an old abandoned farm and behind it the road transforms into the narrow path. Slettedalen Valley looks amazing. This is the perfect example of U-shaped valley, created by glacier long time ago. At the end I had to climb up at the ridge and that was one of few demanding sections of this hike.
Surrounding changes here. Rocks replace rich vegetation I could see in the valley below. It is more difficult to find the path. Small mounds of stone are often not visible against of the other stones. But finally I reached the summit. Unfortunately I couldn’t see anything. Clouds obscure everything. I stepped close to the cliff and then I saw the clouds moving on in the wind. The sight that unfolded was probably the most beautiful thing I ever saw. A ribbon of a fjord winding towards the north. Very steep mountains slopes on both sides and the clouds still slowly moving on. Unbelievable. Stunning. Amazing. Outstanding. Remarkable. Lack of words to describe it.

I wanted to stay there and only watch at this spectacle. But after some time I decided to check how this view is presented from different angle. I found out that the next peak, Breiskrednosi could offer also some amazing views. But to get there wasn’t so easy. The map in my cell phone showed that there is very steep path, which begins at Bakka, small village at the fjords shore. And this path is not even close to the trail I already came. I determined to reach that place anyway, going across the mountains and ridges but after around 2 kilometers and one hour later I gave up.
I came back on main trail at Slettedalen Valley and then stepped down to Jordalen. But in my mind ignited spark already started a fire. I wanted to climb on Breiskrednosi the next day.
