Kyrkja 217m asl

I was sitting in my car at the marina quay in the small settlement of Innbjoa in western Norway and waited. I had about one hour until my appointment, but when I looked at my watch again impatiently, I received a message asking me to postpone the meeting for another 60 minutes. I didn’t really like spending another hour in the car, so I started to think how to use this time. I saw a run down to the beach nearby. I had my camera with me so maybe I could take some photos on the rocky shore.

I drove in that direction and parked the car at the parking lot by the road. And then I noticed that on the opposite side of the road there was an inviting looking hill. Not high and close enough that, upon reflection, I decided that I should be able to climb it, descend and reach the meeting. In a hurry, I loaded my camera and tripod into my backpack and set off on the trail.

According to the Ut.no application, in my phone I found out that the hill is called Kyrkja and it is 217 m high. The southern slope was completely cleared, and it had only single tree stumps and a whole lot of trunks. To the north, the mountain was still covered with dense forest. I saw quite a lot of trees at the top as well, and I was hoping to catch a nice view once I was there. Meanwhile, I was walking up a wide gravel road, checking from time to time on my phone if my route coincided with the virtual path.

After a bend in the road and after walking the next several dozen meters, I came across a path that turned to the right. This was what I was supposed to go on with. Soon I went into the forest. It wasn’t long before I was on top. Only half an hour has passed since I left the parking lot. Unfortunately, not much was visible from the top. The trees blocked the view of the fjord, and I figured if they had to cut so many trees, they might at least cut some clearance to the north side where there might be a great view of Bjoafjorden and its many islets.

With a bit disappointment, I returned to the path and began to descend. Nice views, although in the cloudy sky I could capture only after getting back to the gravel road leading down. The entire trip took an hour or so and fits perfectly into the schedule of the day. I was a little late for the meeting in the end, but nobody blamed me for it.
