Lammanuten 631m asl
After a break of couple of months, I felt hunger for wandering and I was looking forward to my next trip. I was wondering not only when and where I would go but also about the state of my condition and how my knees would react to unexpected effort after such a long break. This time I chose the Lammanuten peak, the highest mountain in Tysvær Kommune (Rogaland county), 631 m a.s.l. According to the route description on ut.no, the route is just over 6 km and is medium demanding. Although we now have the first half of May, snow can still be seen on peaks of similar height. However, I decided that it would not be deep, and the assurance on the ut.no website that the trail is well marked calmed me enough that I stopped caring.

The day before the planned trip I checked the weather forecast. It was supposed to be rainless, with partly cloudy and rather medium wind. Temperature around 5 degrees. Perfect conditions for hiking. The next morning, I packed my backpack, made sandwiches for the road and start my journey right after breakfast. The trail to Lammanuten begins along the road that leads to Nedstrand. I used to drive it once when I was heading to climb Himakona, so I found it without any problems. Parking by the route is free, but if someone would like to save a bit of their delicate feet, they can park somewhere further along the gravel road (if you have 50 unnecessary krons, to be paid via the Vipps application). In place, all I had to do is throw the backpack over my shoulders, run the app with gps on my cellphone and I could move. Initially, the first 2-2.5 km goes along the gravel road, but is it not easy, as it runs quite steep in some places. At the end of the road, a tablet with the name of the summit leads us to the left, to a forest path, and from now on you will have to deal with mud, slippery stones and even more slippery roots. A comfortable wooden walkway was located at the most wetland section of the route, which was quite nicely composed in the landscape. Thanks to it, I probably managed to avoid getting my shoes wet that day. According to the instructions from ut.no, the route is marked so well that it is impossible to get lost. However, I did 🙂 Thoughtfully, I followed the trampled path at some point, not noticing that the markings lead in a different direction. After a dozen or so meters I realized that I could not see the red markings of the trail and I had to turn back. Apart from this incident, I never lost sight of the path.

Contrary to assurances, the weather was not perfect. A few times the sky was obscured by gloomy clouds and the snow began to sprinkle.
Finally, after more than two and a half hours of walking I reached the summit. The app on the mobile phone instead of the expected 6 km showed that I went over 7. Strange. A notebook box was attached to the stone tower, where you can traditionally capture your name. There were two notebooks inside, but after a quick review, I found that both were completely full, without any blank space for my name. An icy wind was blowing up there. I managed to take a few pics before my fingers began to get cold. However, before I put gloves on the cold fingers, I allowed myself to consume sandwiches.
I think I had to offend someone important because on the way back it was snowing sharply. Or rather snow with hail. I walked hard against the wind, trying to get down as fast as possible to survive this turmoil. Luckily it stopped snowing before I reached the wooden bridge over the swamps. The remaining routes have passed without any surprises. I managed to get into the car and head for the house just when the weather realized that it didn’t raining yet today . This time I was lucky.
