Blefjell

Blefjell is a mountain range, located about 2 hours drive from Oslo. It is very popular place, especially for those who live in capital of Norway. This time I was going to check one of the most popular trails in this range, the route to Sigridsbu cabin.

I showed up on the Nordstul parking early in the Sunday’s morning. The road to Nordstul is paid (70 kr in 2021). There weren’t so many cars at the parking but it was about 6.20 in the morning already. I supposed that more people will come here later during the day.

The path is very well marked by red T. And the first part of journey, when you walk among the trees is pure joy. Later terrain’s slope increases and when you take a look behind your shoulder you can see magnificent view of Nordstulvatnet. There is a trail crossing just a bit further. I choose the path which leads to Sigridsbu cabin by southern side of Sigridsfjell. Being so close to the summit I decided to go off the trail and climb to the top. It took me several minutes to go there and back.

I noticed some people camping nearby. They spent the night in the tents. I felt jealousy of that. I need to do that as well next time.

After another steep slope I found a quite flat terrain and soon I reached Sigridsbu cabin. In fact there were two wooden houses, located between two lakes. I had a little break in this place and then I decided to continue marching. I headed to Store Ble which is the highest summit in Blefjell range (1342m asl). The route to that mountain was mainly covered by snow but fortunately there were no snow on the summit.

I wanted to go back different trail and I found one which leads through the bottom of the Langedalen Valley. It wasn’t so smart to go this way as it was completely covered by snow. But I didn’t give up, even when I had to take out the snow from my shoes.

Finally, the Langedalen trail connected to main path leading me back to Nordstul parking and soon I reached my car. I made over 14 km that day and it took me approx. 6 hours. Good thing is that there was only one little piece of southern part of Blefjell, which gives me a reason to visit this range again some day in the future.
