• Bjørgovarden 1138 m n.p.m. & Fjellenden 1145 m n.p.m.

It’s been over one month since I came back to Norway and I still haven’t been at any mountain trip. I don’t count Bjørnåsen, which has only 138 meters above sea level. I needed something more. Norway is mainly known as a mountainous country but it has also lowland landscapes. Unfortunately I ended up in one of them, called Østfold, close to south border with Sweden. There are single hills with height rarely exceed 100 – 200 meters. And that could be a bit frustrating if you love mountain trips. To get to the nearest mountains range you need at least two and a half hours drive. I decided where…

  • Bjørnåsen

After a few months break, I returned to Norway. New job, new place, new opportunities, you might say. This time I found myself near Moss, in the south of the country, in a place that is probably the flattest area in Norway. The highest peak of Østfold (the southern district of the country) is only 336 meters Slavasshøgda. In the very neighborhood of Moss, however, it is much worse. The first week of work passed somehow quickly and I decided to look around for a nice route for Sunday. I suspected that I would have to be content with just a trip to the forest, especially since the lack of…

  • Reset one more time

In the previous post I wrote about my trip to mountain of Reset and how I lost my passport. Three days after (and the next day after I wandered to Blomstølen, making 30 km) I decided to go on a rescue action. Fortunately weather came with sun and I was going to find my loss and finally climb on Reset with other, neighboring peaks: Høgafjellet and Bårnuten. I was sure that I have to go to the point where I turned back last time. I believed, that my polar jacket and passport are lying there. After I went back, I followed my track and I didn’t find anything. So, the…

  • Reset means plan B

I had a plans for my next trip to Norway. I wanted to go out to the mountains at least two, maybe three times, take a tent and sleeping bag and spend a night somewhere outside. I prepared several maps with interesting tracks and full of optimism I went to country of fjords. Unfortunately, the weather ruined my plans. I realized that just after arrival when I check forecast for next day. And for day after. And for whole next week up to the end of my vacation. My enthusiasm disappeared in one moment. Forecast showed rain, strong wind and more rain in following days. It looked like the best…

  • Blomstølen

My plans for this visit were completely different. I supposed to spend whole week in Norway this time and I wanted to go in other places. As always, I had to modify the plans. Because of weather I was afraid, that I will stay at home for all seven days, but fortunately one day appeared without rain and I decided to go out whatever will happen. And weather served me a strong wind, blowing up to 10 m/s. I didn’t care of it. It always better than rain. Blomstølen was on my reserve list and I had prepared maps of this route. Blomstølen is a lodge located at 630 m…

  • Overnatting på Vardafjellet

My life in Norway unfortunately ended, but still I have some issues that keep me there. And this give me a reason to visit land of trolls time to time. Of course every visit must be connected with mountain trip. For this time I planned something new. I wanted to take a tent and sleeping bag with me. In addition I shared my idea with my oldest son and I heard from him, that he would like to join me on this trip. We choose one weekend to go to Norway. I wanted to use sunny and warm weather which we could enjoy from May. In Norway forecast showed drought…

  • Husedalen

I didn’t think that another mountain trek would take place so soon. Returning to Poland, a new job and everyday duties made the prospect of returning to the country of the fjords and recharging the internal batteries with views and northern climate more and more distant from day to day. Quite unexpectedly, an opportunity arose for a few days trip to Norway to settle some urgent matters. The first thing that ran through my head was whether I would find time for a quick trip to the mountains. Initially, I planned a few-hour hike to the Stokkadalen area, to one of the peaks that I haven’t been at. However, right…

  • Bondhusvatnet

If you want to see glacier, you don’t need to climb on highest mountain. It is very easy if you are in western Norway, close to Odda, where Folgefonna glacier lies. There is a short, easy and very beautiful trail from Sunndal to Bondhusvatnet Lake. And on the mountain slope on opposite shore of the lake, you can see blue ice of Bondhus Glacier (which is a part of Folgefonna). Winter came to Norway and I couldn’t go to any more ambitious trips, because of snow. A lot of snow. So, I decided to visit Bondhusvatnet Lake, where I was couple of times earlier. I had to spend in the…

  • Hovåsen

It supposed to be windy, rainy and snowy Sunday. Waiting for weather apocalypse, I stayed at home. But end of the world didn’t come. It was even quite nice outside. And around the noon I had enough of this. I packed my backpack and went out for another mountain adventure. Two days earlier I’ve been in Stokadalen valley and tried to find any way leading to summits Bukkanuten, Reset, Bårnuten and Høganuten (all of them are parts of one mountain massive). I didn’t find the path but later, when I studied the map, I realized, that on the other side of the road there is a smaller mountain, which looks…

  • Kåtanuten 531 m asl

Kåtanuten was the first mountain I climbed when I came to Norway. It was a long time ago. I haven’t been there in the last years and this was a good reason for refresh that trail. It is placed in Ølensvåg, on the northern shore of Ølsjoen fjord, and the path beginning just opposite the shipyard. There are three parts of this trail: Extremely hard climbing in the woods. First kilometer leads through the forest on very steep slope. Good for train your condition. Swamp and puddles. Somewhere around 330 meters above sea level, there is a saddle and the path goes out from the woods. Now, you can go…
