Nupsredet
During last year’s expedition to the peak of Store Nup, in the Haukeli Mountains, the neighboring mountain Verjesteinsnuten (1650m above sea level) was probably the most photographed object. I think that it was because the characteristic shape of this summit or, if you prefer, its photogenic nature. Impressive vertical walls preventing access to the summit from the south, east and north-east just asked for attention. And although there is no marked trail to the top on any official map, the easiest way to get to it is from the Nupsredet Ridge, which lies a kilometer and a half north of the summit. A well-marked path leads through this pass. It…

A night in Haukelifjell
I was eagerly awaiting another weekend and the opportunity to go to the mountains. I had planned a rather ambitious hike, which I will describe next time. However, I did not want to jump out of bed in the middle of the night to get there by 8 a.m. Following the description of one Norwegian couple’s expedition I just found, I decided that it would be a good idea to leave a day earlier and spend the night in a tent nearby, so that in the morning I would be rested and ready for a difficult hike. In the meantime, there was one more thing to do and the plan…

Store Nup 1661m asl
Do you remember last year’s trip to the mount of Vesle Nup, in the Haukeli area? During that march, my attention was caught by a mountain with a vertical wall, seen from the trail. That was Store Nup and pictures shows that mountain appear quite often in the entry from that trip. And now the time has come to climb on it too. The area where both peaks lie is the mountainous area crossed by the E134 state road that connects Western Norway with the capital of Norway. Moreover, numerous lakes situated in the area give the landscape a specific character. Unlike its smaller sister, Store Nup can be seen…

Røldal stavkirke and winter in Haukelifjell
It was Sunday morning when I got in the car and returned to Oslo. It was still dark outside and it was raining from the sky. I had 430 kilometers to drive all day, so I didn’t have to hurry. Rush was not advisable, because in the Haukeli mountains, through which the road led me, winter conditions prevailed. At one point, the falling rain was replaced by snow and as I approached the town of Røldal it began to slowly clear. I decided that I could take a short break and stop at the local stave church, which I had not visited for a long time. The Røldal stave church was…

Vesle Nup
Welcome to Hardangervidda.I have been dreaming about the Hardangervidda plateau for a long time. And even though I have already managed to touch it, climbing the Troll Tongue or traversing the Queen Sonja Hiking Trail, I haven’t fell I am at right place until now.I decided to visit Haukelifjell in one spontaneous thought. I’ve been at Haukeli before, but only once I managed to go to the mountains there. Description of that trip can be found here. This time I chose a lonely mountain, rising up at the southern end of the Hardangervidda plateau. The hill is called Vesle Nup and it has 1510 m above sea level. Getting to…
