Winter hike to Krakkanuten
Krakkanuten is quite popular mountain, which you can visit if you have a minimum of two hours of free time. Climbing is not especially difficult and the views are delight even before reaching the top. The most popular route to the top is the one that begins with the prayer house, just off the road E 134 in the village of Øvre Vats. Parking is free of charge and access to the trail is a matter of two or three minutes. There is another path, leading from the south-west and it is steeper, but I left it to explore for another day.

Saturday morning promised great weather and despite the fresh snow lying on the fields and hillsides, clear sky forced me to go out of the house. I had no definite plans for the day, so I decided that I will go on Krakkanuten. The parking lot at the house of prayer was empty after seven a.m. A few moments after, I marched up the hill. Wide road climbing up the slope offering sensational views of the valley Vats and the sun rising behind the mountain range on east. Snow-dusted peaks did an amazing impression.
Sometime later the road go into the forest. After few more minutes, I walked the narrow path, covered with snow. I worked my way up. Soon, I left the trees behind. In many places there was a mud or water-soaked ground under the snow. Often I paused, not because of calm my breathing, but more to enjoy the views around.

I finally got to the top. He greeted me icy and gusty winds. Quickly I signed in the notebook and started to take pictures. After a few minutes I felt that my fingers are freezing and I had to evacuate. Wearing of warm gloves helped. On the way back I climbed up on the neighboring hill, marked with a sign with the name of Smørdokkenibba.
I went down after less than two and a half hour of walk. It was just after ten a.m., the sun pleasantly shining in a blue sky and I still had almost a whole day ahead of me. Perfect beginning of the day.
