Middagshaugen 402 m asl & Bukkenibba 489 m asl

Middagshaugen and Bukkenibba are two mountains, located close to each other. I was on both of them a few years ago. Description of this trip you can find here. I didn’t plan to climb on Bukkenbiba again, remembering the wetlands I had to wade through the last time. However, I found out that one of my colleagues, Daniel, is regularly visiting this mountain and I decided to join his next trip, just for fun.

We made an appointment late in the afternoon, and Daniel’s wife joined to us. In addition to Bukkenibba, I agreed to enter the neighboring Middagshaugen. Daniel, knew both mountains well enough that he led us on a different route than the one I used to follow.
First, we went to Middagshaugen, climbing a forest path, which, was seriously muddy only in the initial part. Despite a few steep sections of the route, we were able to overcome it quite quickly and we were soon at the top. From there, on a route I knew partly and partly different, we rushed to the next peak. Unfortunately the new path did not reroute the swamp, which was in my memory and again my shoes had to face this wet challenge.

Finally we got to the place. From above, there was an amazing view of the Vats valley and the surrounding hills: Aksla, Krakkanuten, Fuglen and Grytenuten. The last one has not given me peace for some time. Probably because I haven’t been on it yet and I wondered which way I should get to it. Browsing the maps on the net, I did not find any path leading to the top and I came to the conclusion that it would be smart to go to the neighboring mountain, Bukkanibba and from there try to get to the peak that interests me. I thought it was worth a try.
In the meantime, we were coming back down. The route led through irritating marshes and mud. Then the path, through the forest, which I remember well and the wide but steep road leading to Ølensvåg. There I said goodbye to my friends and I went home thinking of a plan for the next trip.
