Roaldkvamsnuten 755m asl
The choice of this mountain for the next hike was purely accidental. I wanted to go somewhere nearby and the whole trip supposed to take place in the late afternoon to avoid the hot sun. The route to Roaldkvamsnuten was marked on the map, which I received in Ølen, in a local handicraft store, where they offered also various types of travel guides and brochures. This map is a valuable source of interesting routes in Vindafjord Kommune, with marked trails to the surrounding peaks. I discovered that there are some routes there that I have not been on yet, for example Roaldkvamsnuten.
This peak, measuring 755m above sea level rises above the valley at the edge of Lake Fjellgardsvatnet, near the town of Vikedal. It is a picturesque place, surrounded by mountains, whose height exceeds 800 m a.s.l. The route to Roaldkvamsnuten begins at the end of road 4752, between the farm buildings located on the shore of the lake. Initially, you have to sweat a lot, going up the hill laboriously along the road. The trees growing here partially obscure the view, but as soon as we get higher we will be rewarded in the form of a exposed rock, from which we have an amazing view of Lake Fjellgardsvatnet and the surrounding mountains.
From this place we are already following a narrow path, which is often lost among the rocks, grass and streams crossing the area. Red marked wooden sticks stuck into the ground help in finding the way. The terrain is now gentler and leads right next to the vertical wall of Roaldkvamsnuten. The ascent to the top is slightly further north, where the slope of the terrain allows you to overcome the last meters of climbing.
The entire route, from a small car park by the barn to the top, has only 4.5 km. However, you need to climb approx. 600m to reach the summit.
The weather this afternoon was variable. The hot, stuffy air of the day brought cloudy, light rain and wind in the afternoon, which temporarily made this hiking easier. The views from the summit, both on Lake Fjellgardsvatnet and the other mountains nearby, are sensational and I can honestly recommend Roaldkvamsnuten as a few-hour walk and recharge internal batteries.
