Breiskrednosi
There was Sunday morning, when I went out from Vang Camping in Gudvangen, headed to Bakka, small village along the Nærøyfjorden shore. My goal for this day was hike to Breiskrednosi (1189m asl), second after Bakkanosi viewing point over Nærøyfjorden. This one supposed to be much demanding trip. Previous day, during the hike to Bakkanosi, I made over 20 km and I still have a lot of energy at the end. This time I prepared for really exhausted trip.
Get Directions
First section, very steep patch, ended somewhere at 700m asl at Rimstigen Ridge. I was totally exhausted but I knew that is only the beginning. Terain at Rimstgen is more less flat but very soon I needed climb up again on another steep mountain side. Another ridge and another chance to break and catch the breath. I reached the Skarsvotni lake. Here the trail divides and I chose the Breiskrednosi direction. I marched on exposed area now and I strong, cold wind made me to take on the jacket. Another 3,5 km was relatively easy, but I was already tired. Trail goes on the edge of the plateau at about 1200m asl and I had almost all the time Breiskrednosi on my sight.
Finally I reached my goal. Vertical cliff on bare rock, offered amazing view toward southern part of the fjord. That was very cloudy day, but fortunately clouds didn’t obscure the view. It was a bit scary to come up to the edge of the cliff.

I decided to go back the same route, even the alternative trail lead to the Dyrdal village seems to be not so steep. But from Dyrdal I would need to catch the boat to Gudvangen and from there I would need to get somehow back to Bakka. Going back I meet first people at Skarsvotni lake and further I went, the more other walkers I met. Finally, tired but happy, I came back to my car, parked illegal in Bakka, close to old church. I was allowed to left the car there only for two hours. Fortunately nobody charged me for that mistake.
Comparision both trails, Bakkanosi and Breiskrednosi, I can say that the first one is more more easier and offer much better view at Nærøyfjorden. But this is only my subjective opinion and I think that in other weather condition, that my assessment could be different. Anyway, both trail are worth to be hiked, if you have enough time and you are not afraid of long walks.
