  • Family trip on Gjerdesdalsvatnet-Friarane-Hovda route

Summer this year is extremely wayward. Sunny days are so few that it is difficult to enjoy the sunny weather and I ca only dream about any mountain trip. Every sun ray piercing through the clouds deserves special attention, and a few hours of rain-free weather is a good idea to do some home-work or short walks. One of these temporary breaks in the delivery of another batch of rain we decided to use for a family trip. We packed into the car and went out for one of the most frequently described routes on this blog – the trail to Friarane and Hovda. Our three small trolls got somehow…

  • Sletthaug

It’s supposed to be light and pleasant but ended on a 20-kilometer march and climb to Sletthaug (480 m above sea level). But let’s start from the beginning. In recent weeks my mountain activity is not too big. The reason is that I’m trying to recover my achilles tendons. That is why, as long as I’m getting out to stretch my legs, I usually choose some flat routes. And it was supposed to be this time too. I left the house with the intention of going up to 10 kilometers. However, on the way I remained an interesting road where I was with my son two years ago. My kid…

  • Winter hike to Krakkanuten

Krakkanuten is quite popular mountain, which you can visit if you have a minimum of two hours of free time. Climbing is not especially difficult and the views are delight even before reaching the top. The most popular route to the top is the one that begins with the prayer house, just off the road E 134 in the village of Øvre Vats. Parking is free of charge and access to the trail is a matter of two or three minutes. There is another path, leading from the south-west and it is steeper, but I left it to explore for another day. Saturday morning promised great weather and despite the…

  • Siggjo 474m asl

Siggjo, mountain measuring less than 500 meters above sea level is located on the island of Bømlo in the western part of Norway, between of cities of Haugesund and Bergen. As it is the highest peak in the area (the nearest higher mountains are on the neighboring island of Stord), provides sensational views practically in all directions. Strategic location Siggjo was used to place on the top the antenna mast. To get to the top, you can use one of two routes. One leads from the road 542 on the east side of the mountain, the other leads from the west, from the village Sletta. To the Bømlo you can…

  • Kjellasviknuten

I was sitting in the car and arriving to Ølensvåg. The morning fog slowly went away, but I still passed places completely covered by milky clouds. I turned from E134 into road 543 also called Bjoavegen, as it leads to the northern edge of the peninsula to the village of Bjoa. After a few kilometers driving a winding road with spectacular views of the fjord, I noticed a large advertising sign about selling building grounds over the water. I turned left next to it on a unpaved road, and one moment later I parked the car in an empty parking lot at the trail leading to Vakadalen. Trail around valley…

  • Langåsdalsvatnet

Langåsdalsvatnet is a lake, located at approx. 190m above sea level, next to Vassnuten mountain. You can get there from a few directions. Shorter is a forest road from west, from Bjordaj village. From east, you can get there from Eikedal valley and along Husafjell mountainside. Other trail from north comes to Ulserhaug mountain and another from south goes to E134 road and Tveit village. I had to leave my car mechanic to repair at this last place, so I decided that I can spend some time for walking around Langåsdalsvatnet, than waiting in the workshop. Winter hike wasn’t anything scary. Last year, in similar circumstances, I went on a…

  • Svalafjellet

Sunny weather didn’t remain long. In the middle of the week it started rain but on Friday there was quite nice again. Forecast announcing rain from noon next day. So, I could plan a short trip on Saturday morning. I decided to go on Svalafjellet, where I failed a week earlier. This time I prepared better. I looked through and printed out maps from internet. On Saturday morning I went to Ølen and parked near garden center (this is the same place where you can go to Svartafjell). I walked the same path which I did last Sunday, but this time I knew exactly where to go and soon I…

  • Hestanipen i Lysenuten

I took my first new year’s mountain trip now, nearly in the middle of February. But I reached two peaks, including the one with 812 meters above sea level. There was not easy and there were quite a lot of kilometers to go. At least after two months’ break. My first aim was not so high mountain Svalafjellet, located close to Ølen. But I didn’t prepare any map earlier and I lost myself in the woods. Finally, I decided to go back after almost one hour walking. I went to Vikedal, where was my second aim: Hestanipen with 547 meters above sea level. Next to it there is another peak,…

  • Svartafjell

It was to be the last mountain trip this year. In a few days, I supposed to go to Poland for Christmas and take a break from Norway. Weather in recent weeks was not very pleasant, serving a rain and occasionally night frosts. However, a few days before my last weekend in Norway in 2016 rain stopped and I eagerly waited for time when I could go outdoor. The weather forecast proved to be ruthless. Both on Saturday and on Sunday announced rain. I decided to prepared for trip anyway. It may be only fleeting rain and somehow I will manage to get out and walk somewhere a bit. My…

  • Håfjell and other mountains

Håfjell was on my ‘’to do’’ list for a long time. However, I could nowhere find the trail to this mountain. I realized that probably I will have to go there across country. I checked all available maps on internet and established a plan: entrance from Vestvoll to Friarane, get from there to Hovda (530m above sea level), descent, passed Friarane again and go to Litle Kjort, Brennestag and from there look for the way to the Håfjell. I wanted to descent to Blikra, which is very close to Vestvoll, so I could easily get to my car. I printed the maps and waited for the kindness of the Norwegian…
