Haugefjell
Haugefjell (1214m above sea level), the peak on the eastern side of Tinnsjå Lake, was the destination of my next trip. From the road 364 to the top I had to walk for about 7 km and it was mostly wide, unpaved road, from where in some places, in the occasional clearances between the trees, I could see the distinct shape of Gaustatoppen in the west. The route turned out to be quite an endurance challenge as it did not offer too many flat sections. Mainly, it was going uphill. In addition, a strong, cold wind discouraged from taking off my light jacket.
I pushed forward, reducing the number of breaks along the way to get over the trees line as quickly as possible. I was hoping that much better views awaited me above, because what I could see so far seemed very promising. I reached the cabin surrounded by solar panels, where the road ended. The wooden sign directed me to the right, onto a narrow path. I followed it and after several minutes later I went out into the open space. My path met here with the DTN trail, marked by the traditional red T.
As for the views, I was disappointed. It was gray and gloomy. Probably due to the lack of sun. The sky was completely overcast and the cold wind did not stop even for a moment. I managed to get to the top and started my way back almost immediately. Waiting for the weather to improve was rather pointless. I might as well have waited for the rain as heavy dark clouds were already forming.
I returned to the cabin I had passed before and ordered a short break. At this moment, the sun appeared from behind the clouds and it immediately got prettier around. However, I had no longer the strength or the desire to climb again. During the descent, I was able to soak up the warmth of the sun’s rays on my skin and the view of the distant Gaustatoppen. I regretted getting out of bed so early to get here. If I had left an hour later, maybe I would have had that sun right at the top of Haugefjell. As you can see, not always those who get up in the morning get the best.
