Molden 1118m asl
Molden is a mountain 1118m high.and it is located in Luster Kommune in Vestlandet. The mountain rises above the Lustrafjord, which is the farthest branch of Norway’s longest fjord, the Sognefjorden.I took advantage of 2 days off on May 17 and 18 to wander in the mountains a bit in those areas and Molden supposed to be my first dish.

Before I got there, I was wondering how much snow I would find there and whether it would be possible to hike in the mountains at all.Already during the ferry crossing from Fukkenes to Mannheller I saw that the surrounding peaks are still bathed in white. It didn’t look very optimistic.Despite everything, I drove up to the parking lot in Krossen, under the peak.As I was getting ready to walk, another car arrived.Three Norwegian women and a dog spilled out of it.Each of them (except the dog) had snowshoes attached to the backpack (apart from the traditional May 17th flags), which suggested that it might be needed up there. So I pulled out mine, recently purchased at the post-winter sale and not yet tested.I somehow attached them to my backpack and followed the Norwegians.
The snow on the trail came quite early. In the morning, however, it was hard and did not collapse with every step.So the snowshoes were still resting on the backpack, and I was climbing higher and higher along the forest road.
The forest ended on a small plateau with a viewpoint overlooking the fjord. It was there that I caught up the girls making some selfies. From there we walked, keeping in sight practically all the way to the top.Another approach and again a small plateau, on which stood an old barn, having years of splendor far behind it.A tent was set up by the building.I immediately remembered the third car left in the parking lot.The couple from the tent had an even better idea to spend the day than me, because the view from this place was simply fabulous. Another steep ascent and then quite flat but windy and cold. Occasionally with falling snow. Finally, we reach the summit, on the eastern edge of the mountain. The conditions are almost winter, but the views of the fjord are like from fairy tale. The stone cairn of the top is a little further away, I hook it just occasionally and go back over the edge again.Mandatory photos and drone flying.A moment later my fingers go numb from the cold and I decide to head back.Norwegian girls are having a picnic by a stone house overlooking the fjord.
The way back goes faster than I expected. On the way, I pass more daredevils heading up.Not all of them look like native Norwegians, but you can see that they have common ideas on how to organize a day off.I finally reach the parking lot and I can think what to do next.
