Store Nup 1661m asl
Do you remember last year’s trip to the mount of Vesle Nup, in the Haukeli area? During that march, my attention was caught by a mountain with a vertical wall, seen from the trail. That was Store Nup and pictures shows that mountain appear quite often in the entry from that trip. And now the time has come to climb on it too. The area where both peaks lie is the mountainous area crossed by the E134 state road that connects Western Norway with the capital of Norway. Moreover, numerous lakes situated in the area give the landscape a specific character. Unlike its smaller sister, Store Nup can be seen…

A walk along the bottom of the Måbødalen valley
Looking from the edge of the cliff to the bottom of the Måbødalen Valley, it’s hard to understand that there is a path down there and that is possible to reach the foot of the waterfall in just 30 minutes’ walk. The only clue that the trail exists is the outline of the bridge crossing the Bjoreio River. In fact, there is a walking tail down there. And not only that, walking along a narrow, rocky path is not demanding at all. But finding a place from where to start this journey is not so obvious. When I searched the Internet for a place where I could stop the car…

Apelandsfjellet 664 m n.p.m.
I’m already addicted to the mountains. I had barely returned from one trip and I was already drawn back into the bosom of nature. I decided to go up on the nearby Ramnanuten in Sandeid. I’ve never been on this mountain so it should be interesting. I took my backpack with camera and water bottle, put on my five fingers and headed to Sandeid.I parked in the center and armed with my cell phone with the ut.no application, I set off. Initially, I was walking along the estate of single-family houses, but the road was climbing up almost from the very beginning. Soon, the houses were replaced by pastures and…

Møsevatnet and Folgefonna glacier
I’ve got a phone call from my friends a day after my exhausting trip to Ulvanosa. They said that they are going to Møsevatnet next weekend and I’ve got proposal for a join them on this trip with an overnight stay in tents. There could be only one answer to such an offer.Møsevatnet is a lake that meets the Folgefonna Glacier on its southern side. Earlier, we talked about a possible expedition to those areas, especially since there is an 8 km trail that goes almost to the glacier tongue. It seemed extremely attractive if you combine the whole trip with an additional climb up to one or two mountains…

Ulvanosa 1246m asl
Ulvanosa, a peak of 1246 meters above sea level is located between Utåker and Uskedalen. The characteristic shape of the ridge makes the mountain quite popular in summer, when the snow cover has melted enough to make hiking possible. I noticed Ulvanosa the first time in May from the distance, when I hiked on mountains Kjellesviknuten and Børkjenesnuen. It looked like an inaccessible colossus, still covered with a thick layer of snow. And yet the characteristic shape with three distinct vertices captivated me so much that I decided to put my foot on the top of this giant. There are two roads to the top. One from the south from…

Skomakernibba
It’s been about a month since I made last trip to the mountains, so I felt it was time to go somewhere. This time I was not supposed to be alone, because my friends suggested that we need to go on a trip together. They were not very skilled in mountain hiking, so we had to choose such a route that they could manage and also I would not be bored going up the same hill again. Our choice became the top of Skomakernibba, a small hill just outside the village of Vikedal. The hill appears periodically in the tourist guides distributed around the Vindafjord Kommune, due to the magnificent…

Lilletoppen
The visit to Lilletopp was the priority of my trip to Tyssedal. Before I started go up the hill, I went to the Tysso I museum where I got instructions how to get to the small parking lot. I also got a piece of paper entitling me to leave the car for free in the parking lot. The road is the same road which goes to the parking lot in front of the dam in Sjeggedal, from where you can reach the famous Troll Tongue. However, the parking lot on the trail to Lilletoppen is much lower. A small place can accommodate up to three cars, which one belongs to…

Akslandsnuten & Glåmestøl
A week had passed since the previous mountain expedition and my legs were ready for the next challenge. The pain in my knees, which had been so painful when I descended to Rullestad, had ceased and I felt well. It looked like I could planning some new trip. I didn’t want to go too far. Anyway, it also meant mountains higher than those I had in my area and still covered with snow. I didn’t want to get into it. So I was looking for something not exceeding 1000 meters above sea level. After a long searching on the internet map I finally decided to go to Akslandsnuten (821m above…

Harstad surroundings
As I mentioned recently, a trip to Lofoten was not a spontaneous, but an event related to arriving in Norway after a two-month journey from China, the Havfarm unit. Together with the other team members, we were able to watch live the project that some of us have been working on over the past years. The plan also includes official meetings with engineers from NSK Ship Design and a tour over the new Nordlaks fish processing plant, together by the CEO, Inge Berg. But wait, be in Lofoten Islands and do not go sightseeing, not even climb a small hill? No way! Fortunately, we also had some free time to use,…

Roaldkvamsnuten 755m asl
The choice of this mountain for the next hike was purely accidental. I wanted to go somewhere nearby and the whole trip supposed to take place in the late afternoon to avoid the hot sun. The route to Roaldkvamsnuten was marked on the map, which I received in Ølen, in a local handicraft store, where they offered also various types of travel guides and brochures. This map is a valuable source of interesting routes in Vindafjord Kommune, with marked trails to the surrounding peaks. I discovered that there are some routes there that I have not been on yet, for example Roaldkvamsnuten. This peak, measuring 755m above sea level rises…
